Imphal, September 07 2018:
Condemning the fresh confusion and issue which are cropping up at Manipur University, the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has warned that if a positive solution is not brought by Monday (September 10), the association will take its own course of action.
Speaking to media persons at Adimjati Complex, Chingmeirong today, the association finance secretary SR Andria conveyed that just as the 85 days long impasse at MU (which began from May 30), was brought to an end by virtue of the MoA signed between the Ministry of HRD, State Government and the university community on August 16, MUSU began agitation from yesterday which is quite unfortunate.
Alleging that the move will ruin the career of hundreds of students, Andri a questioned the intention or agenda behind the resumption of the protest and asked what positive change it will bring.
He questioned if the university community, State Government and the Central Government will be able to compensate for the loss of precious time and opportunities and demanded all those concerned to reply by tomorrow if they claim they can.
However, he clarified that neither is ATSUM against the protesting parties or is supporting Pandey and appealed to all those concerned not to jeopardise the future of the students and to let the inquiry committee do what it is meant to do.
Urging those concerned to suspend the agitation in the interest of the students, Andria warned that if a positive solution is not brought by September 10, ATSUM will take up necessary course of action.
This time, the Central and State Governments cannot shy away from the issue, he added.
On the other hand, the ATSUM finance secretary mentioned that if MUSU, MUTA and MUSA claim to stand for justice, then it can be questioned why they remained silent when tribal students lost two/three months of their time during the issues surrounding Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Act.
ATSUM tribunal secretary Joseph Hmar urged all not to disturb the academic atmosphere of the university.
Even if there are two/three administration or even if there is a power struggle in the university, it is not right to disturb the academic atmosphere in any way, he added.
Joseph Hmar also added that ATSUM will produce all necessary documents and details about which teachers and student leaders are involved in contract works inside Manipur university at the earliest as well.
On the other hand, ATSUM president Vareiyo Shatshang said that around 5-6 students who have already been admitted to some outside universities, are now returning dejected as the 5th semester examination results for Bachelor of Social Works is not declared yet and demanded all those concerned to clarify regarding the ruined careers of the said students.
