Cooperation and Social Welfare Minister Nemcha Kipgen has said that the hill districts and far flung areas of the State, which remain isolated from development, can be transformed through proper and effective cooperation.
This was stated by the Minister during her visit to Kholep in Kangpokpi district for a site inspection regarding the constructing of multipurpose work-shed cum training hall and hostel for handloom and handicraft centre.
The construction work will be taken up in Kholep by Integrated Cooperative Development Project (ICDP) under National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC).

Aiming to transform Kholep into a model village and to promote the handloom sector, Minister Nemcha conveyed that many people, especially widows, orphans and destitutes will get maximum benefit once the multipurpose work-shed is complete.
She said that it would not only generate employment but also provide a substantial livelihood income and market for the local weavers and artisans.
"The centre will likely cover weavers and artisans from more than 30-40 villages in and around Kangpokpi district.
It also plans to extend such centre to other districts as there should be inclusive development in every nook and corner of the State", she asserted.
The Cooperation Minister said that development can be brought and attained in all spheres when people become financially independent and are able to stand on their own feet.
According to the locals, more than 50 women are engaged in handloom and handicraft related work at present.
They also stated that these women market their products to other parts of the country.
It may be mentioned that the Integrated Cooperative Development Project (ICDP) was introduced for the welfare and development of districts through cooperative efforts in the field of agriculture and allied sectors like fishery, poultry, handloom, rural industries, livestock, consumers etc.
The concept of ICDP envisage selection of an area or district, formulation of activities and programme in an integrated manner, based on the resources of the area and the needs of the people and also development of those activities through cooperatives.
The site inspection was accompanied by officials of the Cooperation Department.
