CM launches Start-up Cohort of Startup Manipur

Chief minister N Biren Singh launched the Start up Cohort of Startup Manipur and XR for Start-up Roadshow at the Imperial Hall of Classic Grande, here, on Thursday.
The XR Startup programme aims to accelerate India's contribution towards building the foundation of the metaverse and nurturing the development of Extended Reality (XR) technologies.
Speaking as chief guest of the launch function, N Biren thanked all concerned including Sikkim Manipal University, NITI Aayog and Manipur Technical University for bringing the world closer to the tiny state of Manipur through Meta, and added that involvement of Meta means the whole world is looking.
Explaining the reason for initiation of Startup Manipur scheme, the chief minister said that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who launched the Start Up Scheme nationwide in 2016.Soon after coming to power in 2017, the then state government also wanted to launch the Startup Manipur and did so in 2018, he recounted.
The CM further explained the significance of the Startup Manipur and pointed that as the people cannot depend only on the government for employment schemes like the Startup have been initiated to help generate employment opportunities for youth of the state.
"We are not only providing employment, through such schemes but have also started exporting products of the state like black rice and pineapples to other countries," he said, adding that the state has potential and resources especially human resource but yet to utilise it properly.
According to Atal Innovation Mission of Niti Aayog mission director Dr Chintan Vaishnav, India has around 77,000 registered start-ups and one start-up on an average creates 11 jobs, which is about seven and a half lakh jobs in total.
"We have learnt from the Atal Innovation Mission that for every rupee invested in the innovation mission, we received about Rs 17 in return," he said.
The launch of "Start up Cohort of Startup Manipur and XR for Start-up Roadshow" was organised jointly by the Start-Up Incubation Centre - Manipur Technical University and Atal Incubation Centre - Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) Technology Business Incubation Foundation and was supported by the planning department, Government of Manipur.
Additional chief secretary Vumlunmang Vualnam, MTU vice chancellor Dr Bhabeswar Tongbram, SMU vice-chancellor Dr (Lt Gen retired) Rajan S Grewal, MEITY Start-up HUB (MHS), Government of India CEO Jeet Vijay and META Public Policy Director Sunil Abraham among others attended the launch function.
