'DPR worth Rs 480 Cr for cooperative sector development in State approved'

Maintaining that the socio-economic condition of the masses will be improved considerably if the cooperative movement in the State is strengthened, Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Nemcha Kipgen has informed that DoNER Ministry has approved a Detailed Project Report (DPR) worth Rs 480 crore for further developing cooperative sector in the State .
The Minister was speaking at the 'Discussion for the Development of the Cooperative Societies, Manipur' organised by Managing Body of Manipur State Cooperative Union (MSCU) at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound today .
Attending the discussion programme as chief guest, Nemcha said that the Ministry has asked the State Government to provide technical assistance for approving the DPR .
She elaborated that cooperative sector in the State is to be developed with the help of Integrated Cooperative Development Project (ICDP) which is under National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) .
She asserted that cooperative sector has been playing a very important role in the socio-economic development of the country and as such it is necessary to promote cooperative societies especially in the areas where socio-economic developments still lag behind, especially in our State.
Highlighting the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who repeatedly emphasised on keeping 'cooperative spirit' alive, the Minister said that the State Government is making sincere efforts to strengthen the cooperative sector .
She also observed that cooperative movement in the country has witnessed a drastic shift with the coming of the BJP-led Government at the Centre .
She expressed hope that genuine and active cooperative societies in the State can be promoted once the State Cooperative Act is properly implemented.
The Minister appealed to the cooperative societies in the State to work together for bringing in equal development in the hills and the valley .
She lauded MSCU for taking up the topic 'Discussion for the Development of the Cooperative Societies, Manipur' and urged the union to take up such programmes in other districts too .
Wangoi MLA O Lukhoi Singh; Principal Secretary (Cooperation) JC Ramthanga and Deputy Secretary (Cooperation) K Bono Singh were present at the occasion as president and guests of honour respectively.
