AOI to introduce Iodine Therapy service

American Oncology Institute (AOI) Babina Specialty Hospital's radiation oncologist senior consultant Dr Tomcha Thaodem has informed that Iodine Therapy service for treatment of thyroid cancer will be made available at the hospital from May and bone marrow transplantation within short notice.
Speaking to media persons in connection with the observance of World Cancer Day-2023 at the hospital's conference hall, Sajiwa jail road, Khabeisdi, Dr Tomcha informed that the world has been observing 'World Cancer Day' on February 4 every year mass awareness on prevention of cancer.
Citing report of the National Cancer Registry Program 2020 wherein cases of cancer in India by year 2025 is estimated to reach 15.6 lakhs, which is around 12 per cent of the population, Dr Tomcha also informed that AOI Babina has been taking up patient specific treatment methods and has so far conducted over 6,000 chemotherapy sessions while use of newly manufactured 'Panitumumab' and 'Pertuzumab' medicines has saved the lives of many.
For the first time in North East, AOI Babina has started using "Halcyon" Linear accelerator machine manufactured by Varian of USA.
By availing 3-D and 4-D targeted therapy to the patients, side effect of treatment of cancer has been reduced and enhanced the recovery rate, he continued, while adding that Stereotactic Radiation treatment such as SRS, SBRT and SRT decrease treatment period but give the same result as done by surgery.
He further informed that more than 900 patients were treated through conformal 3D-CRT, IMRT, IGRT and Rapid Arc.
Moreover, free treatment is given to CMHT and PMJAY patients.
Pointing out that lung, stomach and nasopharynx cancers are common among man and breast and cervix cancer among woman, he appealed to all to stop the habit of going outside the state for treatment by spending lots of money.
Meanwhile, Karnikos Manipur Cancer Care and Research Institute observed 'World Cancer Day' by conducting cancer awareness programme at different places.
Karnikos Institute senior consultant Dr K Rajo and doctors of the hospital delivered lectures about cancer during the awareness programme.
A football match between Manipur Stars and Manipur Cancer Warriors was also played at Eastern Sporting Union Ground, Wangkhei as a part of the programme.
