Imphal, July 01 2013:
While raising a Calling Attention Motion on water crisis in and around Imphal during the ongoing 5th Session of 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly today, MLA of Keishamthong Constituency Laisom Ibomcha today produced several photographs showing leaked pipelines, unauthorized connections and water theft by private suppliers in the House.
MLA Ibomcha said that the deliberation on water crisis in the Assembly has taken much time and so he has personally inspected the sites to bring up the issue to the notice of the Minister concerned.
He further stated that the officials of PHED might not even be aware of all these scenarios.
Private water carriers are pumping water from the leaked pipelines of the Department.
The water crisis can be solved to a great extent by formulating an Act for public water supply, he noted.
PHE Minister I Hemochandra appreciated MLA Ibomcha for bringing up the water issue with photographs in the House.
He assured that the officials of PHED would be strictly instructed to check leakages in water pipelines and ensure proper water supply to the public.
Meanwhile, MLA of Oinam Constituency Dr I Ibohalbi also raised a Calling Attention Motion urging the State government to consider age relaxation for candidates who aspire to appear in the coming Manipur Civil Services Examination as the said examination was not held for two years in the past.
Chief Minister Ibobi replied that the matter would be discussed in the State Cabinet Meeting.
