DDG rapped for relaxing internet ban in CCpur

Imphal, May 31 2023:
The state home de-partment has asked Vishwa Sharma, DDG, Term Cell, department of Telecommu-nication, Imphal to justify reasons for relaxing the ban imposed on internet in re-spect of Churachandpur district despite govern-ment's order suspending internet service throughout the state since May 3,2023.In a notice issued by commissioner (Home) Cyan Prakash, the DDG has been asked to probe into misuse of Internet connection by some In-ternet Service Providers and users in Churachand-pur district for spreading photos and videos of arson during Manipur violence and submit a report on the same by June 1.The notice further point-ed out that certain Inter-net connection provided through ISPs in Churachan-dpur may have been used by miscreants for dissemina-tion of communal tension/ hatred/mistrust photos and videos in connection with the prevailing law and order situation in the state.
The government has identified 8 user names and their WIFI passwords listed for probe.
They user names are LV Lane, Canara Bank, Dorcas Road (GBC), Nute Kailhang Mai, YPA Hanmuai Kiang, Dorcas Veng Eastern Delight, Salbung Chansel Clinic and SA Road, Tedim Road.
It may be mentioned that the home depart-ment on May 21 and 26 advised that all in-ternet Service Providers (ISPs) providing internet through lease line connection shall be barred immediately except those spe-cifically exempted by the government.
The home department said actions will be taken against the ISPs which failed to comply with the government order.
Meanwhile, the home department has issued an order to extend the ban on internet services till June 5 .
