With the failure of the talks between the Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDDC) and the state government headed by CM O Ibobi, another blockade on NH 37 to add to the misery of the people of the state looms large as the JDDC told reporters of a possible blockade within two or three days.
The 11 member team of JDDC headed bv its president Th Jenny met the team of state government at 10 am today in the bungalow of the CM and discussed at length the demands of JDDC and its solutions.
Chief Minister, O Ibobi, Revenue Minister, Th Devendra, Works Minister, K Ranjit, Deputy Chairman State Planning Board Bijoy Koijam and the Chief Secretary represented the state government.
JDDC requested the government to declare Jiribam a district since there is no dispute of boundary.
After hearing the representations of the committee, the CM asked the committee to wait for three months until the committee formed to reorganize the district boundary submits its report after which the declaration of districts in the state will be effected.
However, JDDC stuck to its stand and demanded the government to complete its report within 15 days and take up the required action at the earliest.
Speaking to reporters after the talks, M Maipaksana, covener of JDDC said that the committee will discuss the issue and will take steps to impose an indefinite blockade on NH 37 in the next two or three days.
He also appealed to the various civil societies of the state to extend their cooperation to the JDDC in its demand.
