Three women hurt in Thoubal firing incidents

Workers of Kh Menjor Mangang, who is prepar ing to contest 2022 election in Khangabok assembly constituency, allegedly attacked a group of women leaving two of them injured.
The incident occurred at Khangabok Part-III Lamlong Makha Leikai under Khangbok AC in Thoubal district at about 3.30 pm Friday and the injured women are identified as Thokchom Roma of Khangabok Part-II and Ningthoujam Revika of Khangabok Part-I.Both of them suffered injuries on their legs and hands.
Recounting details about the incident to media persons during a press conference at Khangabok Friday, Women Organisation Khangabok (WOK) secretary Laishram Bino said Kh Menjor Mangang planned to hold a meeting at the residence of Moirangthem Pabi ita of Khangabok Makha Leikai in violation of a collective decision taken on June 29, 2019 by the locals.
After contacting the organisers, large number of women tried to enter the meeting venue but some workers of Menjor Mangang armed with firearms and other dangerous weapons attacked the approaching women.
A team of Thoubal police led by SI Boboy accompanied Kh Menjor Mangang till the meeting venue but police remained as silent spectators when BJP intending candidate's workers attacked the group of women who went to enquire reason for holding the meet, she said and asked as to why police personnel allowed Menjor Mangang's workers to attack the women in front of them.
Demanding action against police personnel who remained silent spectator during the incident, Laishram Bino said Menjor Mangang is unfit candidate for Khangabok AC and will boycott him from immediate effect.
She also said that video evidence about the excessive committed by workers of Menjor Mangang is with WOK.
Meanwhile, a woman sustained injuries when unidentified persons fired indiscriminately towards a house at Yairipok Changamdabi Mathak Leikai under Andro police station in Imphal East district at about 12.30 am on Friday.
The woman identified as Bembem (35) wife of Md Abdul Gaffar alias Nahamu suffered injury while she was sleeping on her bed after one of the bullets pierced through the steel sheet wall.
She is undergoing treatment at JNIMS.
A report has been filed at Andro police station regarding the firing incident.
Meanwhile, a sit-in-protest was staged on Friday at Changamdabi Mathak Leikai community hall denouncing the firing.
Speaking to media persons at the protest venue, Changamdabi Muhammadan Club (CMC) president Md Anish Shah strongly condemned indiscriminate firing in the populated area and demanded clarification from those responsible for such ghastly act.
He also appealed to state home department to nab the culprits involved at the earliest and punish them according to law of the land.
During the protest, placards inscribed with words denouncing indiscriminate firing towards civilian area and threatening people were put on display.
