Timber seized

Imphal, December 24 2019:
Troops of Assam Rifles, under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) seized five truckloads of Timber (Khangrawood) which were being illegally transported from Nungshang and Singkap in Ukhrul district, yesterday.
A statement issued by IGAR (South) conveyed that based on specific input, troops of Assam Rifles established a vehicle check post at Lambui, Ukhrul district, and detained five vehicles which were carrying approximately 30 tonnes of timber logs worth Rs 20 lakh, without a permit for the same.
The wood was obtained from the jungle near Kasom Khullen and was being transported to Tushar village (Ukhrul) for cutting and further selling at Imphal.
The drivers of the five vehicles along with the illegal consignment have been handed over to Forest Beat Office at Finch Corner, it added.
