A husband who frequently tortured his wife while in an inebriated state is likely to taste the law of the land under the Domestic Violence Act.
An incident of wife beating took place yesterday at Morok Ingkhol village in Imphal east district yesterday, in which the wife was seriously injured.
The victim has been has been identified as Mongjam Tombi (30) and the tormentor husband has been identified as Mongjam Modhuchandra (40).Sources said that they have been married for the last 10 years and have three children.
The victim Mongjam Tombi while speaking to the media at the press club, Imphal today narrated her ordeal at the hands of her husband.
She said that her husband Mongjam Modhuchandra after consuming alcohol and tortured her frequently over the last many years.
At 5 pm yesterday her husband beat her severely by a firewood log because she went to buy canes to making fishing net without his permission.
She said that on his beating she had suffered head, chest injuries.
Frighten by her husband merciless beating, she said that she had managed to escape for shelter at her ancestral home at Khongman, with her only two month old baby.
She also disclosed that her husband had married a woman prior to her and she too was left him because of his merciless beatings.
She said she is now afraid to live with him and expressed her desire to punish her husband who frequently indulged in child and wife beatings.
The mother of the victim Ningombam Ibempishak who was also present in the press meet said for the torture of his wife and children, Mongjam Modhuchandra need to be taught a befitting lession under the Domestic Violence Act for which they would lodge a complaint to the court.
Her daughter would also be filling for divorce.
She declared that she would not let her daughter stay with him anymore.
