Imphal, April 20 2013 :
Even as the State Government is trying to protect arable lands by implementing "Land Use Act", the existing arable lands of the State have already started disappearing gradually.
A large portion of arable lands in the State have been taken over by industrial estate, brick fields, educational institutes and houses during the last few years.
These can be seen widespread specially in Patsoi assembly constituency.
When Hueiyen Lanpao paid an inspection visit in the cultivable lands under Patsoi A/C, it was found that a number of new houses have sprung up in the middle of farm lands and schools constructed everywhere, thus leaving no space at all for agricultural purposes.
It was only yesterday during the process of computerization of land records of Lamshang, Patsoi and Wangoi at Lamphel DC office that Chief Minister O Ibobi had announced that the Government is planning to implement "Land Use Act" in the State.

During the inspection visit, it was seen that a new village has come in the middle of farm lands located to the east of CRPF Group Centre at Langjing Achouba Leirak while setting up of another village is in the offing over the arable land located to the east of Sangaiprou FCI with a number of new houses already under construction.
A number of new brick field were also seen coming up in the cultivable areas of Toubungkhok Mamang Leikai.
The situation is no different in Patsoi Part IV, Part I where all the arable areas have been taken over with construction works, both of the Government and the private.
