Covid death toll reaches 5 in Ukhrul

Ukhrul, May 19 2021:
Ukhrul district on Wednesday recorded fifth death from Covid-19 after a 38-year-old breathed his last at RIMS in Imphal this morning.
Sources said that deceased Rejoice Pharung Awungshi succumbed to the infectious viral infection at the government hospital around 10 am on Wednesday.
He hailed from Pharung village in Ukhrul district, but was residing at Nagaram in Imphal.
With this, the death toll due to the viral infection has reached five in the district.
Later, on the same day, the district administration has issued a permission for transportation of the deceased's body till his native place to enable conduct of the last rites.
In the permission order, the district administration said that the same was granted at the request of the family to take home the mortal remains of the deceased, who was Covid-19 positive and passed away on May 19 at RIMS, Imphal.
"The dead body is to be transported from RIMS Hospital to the burial site at Pharung village and should be buried today ie, 19-052021 with strict observations of Covid-19 Protocols," the order directed.
It further directed for gathering of not more than 20 persons and maintaining social distance of at least 3 metres.
Meanwhile, two new Covid positive cases were found during screening conducted at Ukhrul District Hospital Screening Centre on Wednesday, DSO has informed.
