Imphal, April 19 2012:
Kuki Chiefs' Association, Khenjoy Subdivision has appealed for relaxation in connection with opening bank accounts at SBI Chandel for the old age pensioners of Khenjoy TD Block.
In a memorandum submitted to the Director of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur, Secretary of the Association T Haokip pointed out that Khenjoy sub-division/Khenjoy TD Block is located at the remotest corner of Indo-Myanmar border at a distance of 50 to 100 kms from Chandel district headquarters.
So, it would be impossible for old age pensioners to walk such a long distance for opening their bank accounts as well as for withdrawal of their pension amount from the SBI branch at Chandel on account of their physical weakness.
Besides, their illiteracy and ignorance would be a great problem in operating the bank accounts.
Considering all these factors, the old age pensioners of Khenjoy TD Block should be given relaxation from opening their bank accounts at SBI branch at Chandel district headquarters, Haokip pleaded.
