Imphal, February 19 2020:
Owing to the failure to comply with an order issued by the Supreme Court regarding appointment of MPS officers based on seniority basis, the State Government is possibly going to face contempt if it does not take up corrective measures at the earliest.
A source mentioned that the Supreme Court passed its judgement on the case on November 19 last year and necessary legal notice was sent to the State Government and the authorities concerned on November 22 directing the officials to do the needful within a period of 8 weeks.
A reminder notice was again sent on January 10 this year.
However, even after the duration specified in the Supreme Court's order expired on January 14, the State Government has not complied with the direction of the apex Court till date, the source informed.
The State Government has no option but to adhere to the directions given by the Supreme Court.
Otherwise, contempt proceedings can be initiated against the officers concerned before the Court, the source concluded.
