Covid deaths: Govt to provide Rs 50K ex-gratia

The state government has notified that an ex-gratia assistance of Rs 50,000 will be provided to the next of kin of those who died due to Covid-I9, subject to cause of death being certified as Covid-19 death.
In a notification issued on December 16, additional chief secretary (R&DM) MH Khan informed that the ex-gratia assistance will be provided from State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) with District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) / district administra -tion concerned responsible for disbursing the assistance to the next of kin of the deceased person.
The families concerned shall have to submit their claims through an application form/claim form issued by the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) along with specified documents.
These application forms can be had from the office of the deputy commissioner/DDMA chairman concerned, it added.
The notification also mentioned that all applications/claims for the ex-gratia assistance should be submitted at the office of the sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) concerned.
SDMs after duly verifying the documents will submit a detailed report along with the documents to the office of the district magistrate for release of the ex-gratia assistance in accordance with the guidelines issued by Union Ministry of Home Affairs on September 25.District administration will notify and depute officers/officials as required for release of the ex-gratia assistance to family members of those who succumbed to Covid-19.The payment will be disbursed through Aadhaar linked Direct Benefit Transfer procedure.
District administration will also ensure that the process of claims, verification, sanction and final disbursement of ex-gratia payment should be through a robust yet simple people friendly procedure, it directed.
The notification further instructed that in case of any grievances with regard to certification of deaths, DDMA/district administration concerned will constitute a Grievance Redressal Committee at district level consisting of additional district collector, chief medical officer, additional CMO/principal or Department of Medicine HoD of a medical college and a subject expert.
