Chief minister N Biren Singh has said that India has been transformed from being an importer to exporter country after Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister of the country.
He also opined that the North East could have been developed at par with Delhi had the BJP governed the region a little earlier.
The chief minister made this remark at the launch function of Seva Pakhwada (service fortnight) programme in connection with the 72nd birthday of PM Narendra Modi at Thambal Shanglen, here, on Saturday.
During the fortnight (September 17 to October 2), BJP workers will carry out various activities related to social welfare including blood donation.
The launch event of Seva Pakhwada was also attended by BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda Devi, ministers, Lok Sabha MP and Union minister RK Ranjan, Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba and BJP workers.
In another event organised by Saksham Seva Kendra Manipur in connection with PM Modi's birthday at its office, Ningombam on Saturday, chief minister N Biren handed over aids and assistive devices including wheelchairs to PwDs under ADP scheme of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
The event was also attended by Union minister RK Ranjan, works minister Govindas Konthoujam, social welfare minister H Dingo and MLA Sapam Kunjakishore.
In his speech at the event, N Biren said that PM Narendra Modi is the friend of poor and unfortunate people and the vivid example of this is the implementation of various welfare schemes based on interest of the people and human values.
At the event, CM Biren also announced Rs 500 monthly allowance for Persons with Disability having disability of 60 to 80 percent starting from next month in celebration of PM Modi's 72nd birthday.
He also said that 'Chief Minister Gi Sotharabasingi Tengbang' scheme launched in December 2017 already provides Rs 1,500 per month to Persons with Disability having 80 percent or more disability.
In another programme, the chief minister said that the Manipur Start-up scheme was launched with a budget of just Rs 30 crore but the government has set the target of increasing the budget to Rs 100 crore to further encourage those who received skill development completion certificates to apply under the Start-Up scheme.
N Biren made the announced during distribution of certificates for skill development training programme (upskilling) conducted specially for youths who had returned due to Covid-19 pandemic.
The programme was held at KB Philanthropy-5, Khabam Lamkhai, Mantripukhri on Saturday.
Attending as chief guest of the event, CM Biren said that the government has been able to attract many investors nowadays unlike the past and this indeed is a sign of positive change and development.
Providing assistance and employment to some of those who re-turned to the state during the pandemic was a target of the government and accordingly the government conducted skill development training in various fields including front office associate, counter sales executive, home delivery boys, business builders, nail technicians, barbers, tourist guide, etc., he said.
According to the chief minister, Manipur is becoming a tourist hub and the number of foreigners visiting the state has increased in the past few years.
He also said that Manipur has the potential to become a tourist hub in view of state's natural scenic beauty, climate, food culture and hospitality of the people.
He said that the state is also developing various sites with historic relevance including the Ibudhou Marjing statue at Heingang, INA complex at Moirang with tallest Indian national flag (165 feet), Nongpok Thong, Kangla Nongpok Torban to attract more tourists and investors.
He also spoke on various welfare schemes and missions including the School Fagathansi Mission, Chief Minister's Hakshel gi Tengbang, Ayushman Bharat, Har Ghar Jal, Manipur Start-up and their benefits.
He further highlighted the importance of Skill development and said skill development is important for improving the economy and ensuring self-sustenance.
The event was also attended by labour, skill development and employment minister Heikham Dingo Singh.
