Imphal, January 16 2022:
Deputy chief minister and NPP leader Yumnam Joykumar has said that BJP's target of winning no less than 40 seats in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election is impossible to achieve in view of the political scenario of Manipur.
How could a party having 7/8 intending candidates in every constituency secure 40 seats in the upcoming election, Yumnam Joykumar said while addressing those gathered during a felicitation function of Nasiruddm Khan alias Baboi of Keirao, who joined the NPP.
Nasiruddin Khan is son of former minister Alauddin Khan.
During the felicitation function also attended by party's working president MLA L Jayantakumar, Yaiskul AC intending candidate H Bikramjit, National People's Youth Front (NPYF) president and Khurai AC intending candidate L Jayananda and and other party leaders, Joykumar said 42 seats won by the Congress in the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly election was highest ever won by a single party in the political history of Manipur and there is no way BJP could achieve the same feat as per the prevailing political scenario in Manipur.
While belittling the BJP's projection of wresting 40 seats, he pointed out that as there are 7/8 intending candidates in every constituency and it is yet to take a final decision on who to nominate it is obvious that the intending candidates would not have enough time for campaigning.
According to Joykumar, NPP is planning to release its election manifesto before January 26 and people of the state would know party's intention to work for the state.
While reiterating that it is impossible for any party to get absolute majority in the upcoming polls, he predicted that NPP will be taking part in the formation of the new government.
Contrary to BJP which has 7-8 intending candidates in every constituency and party would imminently face problems once the final list of candidates is announced, NPP is very clear from the start and it chooses to field only one candidate in a constituency to avoid the issue of who should be given the party ticket, he added.
He said that NPP has been highlighting the issues of the north-eastern region, in the national capital, as a regional party.
Thus, party president Conrad Sangma will be releasing the manifesto of NPP before January 26 to inform the masses about the party's objectives.
In his speech, Md Nassiruddin said that he joined NPP as he trusts the ideology of the party, which believes in building a'united and developed north east region devoid of any discrimination.
He then expressed his hope of fulfilling the visions of his deceased father along with his own thoughts for the constituency.
