Imphal, March 15 2013 :
Internationally well-known theatre director from Manipur Ratan Thiyam today remarked that the present generation of Manipur seems lacking the idea of leaving behind something worth for the future generations.
Ratan Thiyam was speaking at the inaugural function of the 3rd All Manipur Folk Drama Festival, 2013 which coincides with the celebration of 83rd foundation day of Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU) at the union's hall here.
The recipient of National Sangeet Natak Akademy Fellow, 2012 and director of Chorus Repertory Theatre was also facilitated by MDU on the occasion.
Ratan further said although in other Indian states like Madhya Pradesh theatre artistes are honoured with awards, theatre artistes in Manipur are disregarded because of lack of supporters.
He said many noted artistes in the state in the recent past had to lead a life that was full of embarrassments and suggested the Manipur Government to formulate a policy for theatre artistes of the state.
"The art form drama is a medium that shows the reality of life in a society and sensitize people on every aspect of life by giving good messages," he said.
He also said people must absorb only the good message and throw away the negative meaning that is portrayed in a theatre.
A lot of intellectual plays have come up in Manipur since many intellectual personalities cropped up but that the important question is that whether these individuals have the real nerve to devote to the art of drama, Ratan said.
