Haochong VA blocks road, decries Government's neglect

Following the inaction of the State Government to improve the condition of the Imphal-Kangchup road (also called Tamenglong BT road), Haochong village authority has blocked the said road from March 9 onwards.
The VA has warned that any person will bear the responsibility of any unwanted incident which might occur as a result of the blockade.
Speaking to media persons in Imphal, members of Haochong village authority under Haochong sub division, Noney district, stated that elders have been demanding the State Government to renovate the Imphal-Haochong road for a long time.
The villagers were once hopeful about seeing a proper road when the authorities had assured to construct the said road with assistance from Asian Development Bank, he added.
He further informed that officials from the Centre, along with Haochong villagers, had also conducted a survey in 2013 while adding that the villagers were also excited when the officials maintained that the Imphal-Kangchup road would connect places.
Later, when the news about cancelling the construction work reached the villagers, around 13 memorandums were submitted to the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary in 2017, the VA member continued.
Following this, the project director concerned sat down with Haochong villagers on April 15, last year for a negotiation during which, a resolution to construct the road of Haochong village was adopted, apart from assuring to take up necessary steps as well.
Recently, all hopes were lost when the authorities concerned disapproved the project, he said and added that the villagers now feel betrayed and are compelled to launch the road blockade to seek immediate attention of the State Government.
