New building of Imphal Art College inaugurated

Art and Culture Director Ng Utam Singh has stated that it is high time for the people and the Government to work towards developing and improving the art and culture of the State.
Speaking to media persons at the inaugural function of a new building for Imphal Art College alongside a five days Annual Art Exhibition today, Ng Utam said that constant interaction between artists, art activists and theatre practitioners with top level officers of the Government is necessary to preserve the art and culture of the society.
On the other hand, Imphal Art College Principal S Nimai said that the college was set up in 1949 at Paona road and added that even though the college is around 68 years old, it has not been converted into a Government college till date.
The college offers 4 year courses to its students and after completion of the said course, the students can pursue Master courses in any part of India.
The college has around 100 students currently, he added.
Today's art exhibition was organised in connection with the 100 birth celebration of the college founder Principal, late H Shyamo Sharma.
Around 75 paintings were showcased in the art exhibition which was inaugurated by the Director of Art and Culture.
The newly constructed college building was inaugurated by Commissioner of Art and Culture M Lakshmikumar Singh.
Chairman of Governing Body Imphal Art College, L Mangi Singh was also present at the event.
