Imphal, March 05 2013:
The Naga People's Front (NPF), Manipur unit has said that the Secular Progressive Front (SPF) government of Manipur has been trying to divert the public's attention by announcing that it would hand over the drug haul cases to the Central Narcotic Bureau (CNB) or any other Central agency.
"Home minister Gaikhangam had said on February 27 that the cabinet was planning to take a decision whether the drug trafficking cases particularly the Pallel incident to a Central agency for investigation but on February 28, Manipur director general of police (DGP) Y Joykumar had told the media that NCB Deputy Director General, North East, RK Sahu had visited Imphal on February 27 and had held consultations with the DGP on the seizure of the illicit drug consignment," stated Athuan Abonmai, Manipur unit NPF secretary.
"Here our party wants to ask which is the higher authority--the state police or the state government?", Athuan Abonmai questioned saying the state government said something while the state police speak different thing else.
The NPF leader then said the 3-day sitting of the state assembly session is a ploy by the state government to avoid important debates.
"Drug trafficking cases, law and order problem, and financial irregularity cases and there have been many other things to be discussed.
How can all these be accommodated in just three days?" Athuan Abonmai further questioned.
