Imphal, May 04, 2013:
Development of Lairenpat and Puruksoubi as an Integrated Tourist Circuit under Thongju Assembly Constituency has been found unsatisfactorily much to the dismay of Estimate Committee of the Manipur State Assembly, which has been compelled to give instruction for stopping the construction process at once.
The 'unsatisfactory' progress of the construction work on the Integrated Tourist Circuit was come across by team of the Estimate Committee led by its Chairman MLA Dr Ng Bijoy during an inspection today.
During the inspection, the Chairman was accompanied by MLA Th Bishwarjit of Thongju A/C; MLA RK Imo of Sagolband A/C; MLA Karam Shyam of Langthabal A/C and Y Ningthem, Director, Manipur Development Society among others.
The team first inspected the construction works being taken up at Lairenpat where 12 components are supposed to be taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 3 crores.
Eighty percent of the whole amount sanctioned had already been transacted but there was no sign of any proper construction, much to the disappointment of the visiting team.
The footpath, walls, wooden bridge, gate, toilet and parking areas were also found to have been constructed without maintaining quality.
From Lairenpat, the inspection team proceeded to take stock of the progress of the construction work supposedly being taken up at Puruksoubi at an estimated cost of Rs 2 crores.
With all the seven components including cafeteria, toilet, gate, parking, fencing and footpaths, etc found constructed with no quality control, the Estimate Committee has advised the authority concerned to put a halt on the construction process immediately.
