Manipur University IT fest kicks start

The 3rd IT Fest under the theme "Marching Ahead with Technology" with the objectives to provide a common platform for all, explore the budding talents, provide and develop e-skills and knowledge network and provide innovation in emerging areas of new technology, organized by the IT Club Department of Computer Science has kicked off today at Manipur University Centenery hall, Canchipur.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr..SBirendra, director, NIT, Manipur said that the present day formal education being imparted within the four walls of a class room is not appropriate with the education systems of other nations.
As such, new techniques of e-learning and virtual learning should be included in the students' learning so that the nation can compete at the global level.
He also mentioned the need to include various events on students so that new innovation and initiatives can be implemented in their learning systems.
Meanwhile, Information officer, NIC, Manipur Centre, Kh, Rajen maintained that Information Technology (IT) plays a vital role in education.
It carries a great capability in the education sector.
As such, the various functions and benefits of IT cannot be fully provided to the people till date due to its vast applications.
Moreover, students of schools and colleges are not well guided in the field of Information Technology due to various reasons which should be overcomed.
Regarding the difficulties faced due to shortage of faculties at various departments of Manipur University, he said that with the help of tele-education, the problem can be resolved to some extent.
But the problem still exists and remains unsolved as the innovation cannot be performed practically.
As part of the inaugural function of the IT fest, a souvenir was released.
The programme was also attended by Dr..HMamata Devi, Head of Department, Computer Science department, Manipur University and chairperson of IT Fest.
The programme which will go on till November 5 would showcase varieties on education and other programmes like quiz, dance (solo/group), debate, Miss IT contest, unplugged, programming category A, B, C, spot photography, counter strike, MS-paint category A, B, mobile short film and awareness programme events and competitions.
These programmes will attract student's attention to participate and gain profound knowledge through the festival.
