Puya Mei Thakhibagi Apunba Ningsing Lup (PUMANIL) observed the 283rd anniversary of Puya Meithaba as "Puwarigi Amamba Numit" at Youth Centre Auditorium, Khuman Lampak.
Speaking on the occasion, Convener of PUMANIL Chandramani Khumancha said that Puyas of Manipur nation were turned into ashes on October 5, 1732, Sunday after Santidas Goshai, who was a Hindu preacher, interfered into the internal affairs of the erstwhile independent nation.
Earlier, ACOAM Lup used to observe the day.
However, now the day has been observed as "Puwarigi Amamba Numit" after ACOAM Lup with other organizations jointly formed PUMANIL, informed Chandramani Khumancha.
The convener further reminded that Manipur is an erstwhile independent nation with more than 2000 years of history where all the indigenous communities used to love each other and lived in peace.
After the Puyas were burnt, relations between hills and valley started waning which in turn led to the present situation, said Chandramani Khumancha and called upon all to be united and bring development in Manipur.
Attending the function as Chief Guest, Konthoujam A/C MLA Konthoujam Sarat said that the State's history and treasures including cultures, traditions and religion became almost extinct after Puyas were burnt.
