Imphal, February 25 2023:
While expressing that the statement of Delhi Police Special Cell deputy commissioner Alok Kumar claiming about a gang of international drug cartel under the banner of "Itocha International Drug Cartel" operating in Manipur cannot be taken lightly, Committee Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) has demanded probe to find out the truth behind the said drug cartel.
In a release, CADA informed that the arrest of two people namely Ranbir Singh alias Tinku (43) s/o Swaroop Singh and Loyangamba Itocha (33) of Laipham Khunou under Heingang police station along with 50 kg opium by Delhi police is a shame for Manipur.
According to the press statement of the Delhi police "The Itocha International Drug Curtail has been carrying out drug smuggling activities from Manipur to other parts of the country including Delhi and Punjab for the last 5 to 6 years".
Therefore, the government of Manipur should track the said cartel and bring out the truth behind its operation, CADA demanded.
While expressing astonishment over the manner in which the drug has been smuggled from Manipur in a Breeza car with Assam registration number passing all security points in Manipur and getting away from the professional law enforcing agencies of the state, but being finally caught by the police in Delhi, the release said that Manipur which is known for its culture and sports is gradually becoming a drug hotspot.
The matter needs to be brought up on the floor of the house in ongoing session for a threadbare discussion, CADA said.
