KNO observes its 24th raising day

The Kuki National Organisation (KNO) today observed its 24th raising day at its Hermon designated camp at Chandel's Tengnoupal sub-division.
The raising day celebration function was attended by Danish Haokip, under secretary (finance) of Manipur government, PS Haokip, president KNO, and Jamang Haokip, president Hill Tribal Council, Moreh as chief guest, president and guest of honour.
Members of the Kuki Chief Association, Tengnoupal Block Chiefs' Association, Machi Area Chiefs' Association, OC of Tengnoupal PS and villagers of surrounding areas attended the celebration function.
The unfurling of the KNO flag by its president TS Haokip and offering a salute to KNO members,who scarified their lives in course of struggle for "Kuki nation" was observed with a two minute silence.
He recalled that the KNO was formed at Molnoi Kuki village near Indo-Burma border on this day in 1988 and said that it was set up with the objective to restore Zale'n-gam, the Kuki nation to its state of former glory when self rule prevailed among the people.
TS Haokip also said that after 20 years of persistent and committed efforts, the government of India began the process of official meeting with KNO on February 4, 2008 at New Delhi.
The KNO delegate was led by Lalminthang Vaiphei.
With the view to achieve an amicable political solution for the Kuki people, KNO signed the Suspension of Operation with the Centre and the state government on August 22, 2008 at New Delhi, he said.
Danish Haokip, who graced the function as chief guest, said that only when the different communities and tribes residing in the land unite together and work for peace, then development, the want of everybody will be witnessed in the state.
The raising day of the outfit was also celebrated at its camps at Saikul of Senapati, Sangaikot in Churachandpur apart from the Hermon camp.
