Take up pending cases of crime against women, children : WAD

Welcoming the landmark judgment in the Laihaopokpi gang rape case, Women Action for Development (WAD) appealed to the judiciary and law enforcing agency to take a strong initiative with full commitment to take up all the pending cases of crime against women and children and deliver justice to the victims and their families without delay .
It may be mentioned that A Noutuneshwari Devi, Additional Sessions Judge, First Tract Court, Crime against Women awarded lifetime imprisonment for the main accused Khuraijam Bungbung (30) s/o of (L) Indrajit Singh of Lamlongei and 20 years rigorous imprisonment for the two co-accused Nongthombam Bocha @ Biren (43) s/o Bihari and Khuraijam Khamba Singh (26) s/o Guno Singh both from Lamlongei Mantripukhri Mamang Leikai in connection with the brutal gang rape occurred on January 22, 2014 at Laihaopokpi hillock, Imphal East district .
WAD in a press release appreciated the efforts made by the Manipur police especially Heingang police station in the investigation process and timely submission of the charge sheet against the main accused and the co-accused in order to deliver early justice to the victim and her family.
It expressed belief that the Fast Track Court would deliver similar judgment against the perpetrators of heinous crime committed against women and children, physically challenged women and girls.
