Meanwhile, for the two-phase 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election scheduled on February 27 and March 3, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is making hectic preparations to announce phase-wise list of candidates within January 26.To finalise the party's nominees for the elections, chief minister N Biren reached New Delhi on Saturday while BJP's Manipur election in-charge Bhupender Yadav along with BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda and works minister Th Biswajit left for the national capital late Friday afternoon.

The latter trio reportedly went with a list of candidates shortlisted during the BJP ticket committee meet held on Friday.

Sources said that CM Biren and Sambit Patra called on Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa and discussed about ticket allocation and they along with others will discuss issuance of tickets with central leaders and party's parliamentary board before making final list.

As per the sources, the first list of candidates may be announced for those assembly constituencies which have only one intending candidate seeking party ticket.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa is likely to visit Manipur on January 26 and announcement of ticket allocation could be made in his presence.

The source further informed that the party's ticket committee meeting held on Friday prepared a list containing three or two intending candidates for assembly constituencies having numerous intending candidates but the final list will be decided by the party's parliamentary board after through discussion based on its survey report.

On the other-hand, Shiv Sena Manipur president M Tombi has said that party's first list of candidates for the Assembly elections would be declared on January 27.The first list will include names of candidates for 15 assembly constituencies who have been approved by party's central leadership in Mumbai, M Tombi informed the media through a video message on Saturday.

According to M Tombi, he took a list comprising 20 candidates to Mumbai but only 15 of them were approved by national leaders and names of the first list will be declared when he returns to Imphal on January 27.He also said that the first list has been approved after discussion with Shiv Sena MP Anil Desai, Union minister Subash Desai and party leader Dilip Panikar.

Shiv Sena will join government formation if its candidates are elected in the ensuing election and the party will focus on solving issues related to unemployment, water problem, road and air connectivity, M Tombi said, adding that Manipur is lagging behind other states in almost all sectors even after 75 years of India's independence.

He also said that Shiv Sena is preparing to field candidates in all the assembly constituencies of Manipur in the ensuing election and party's central leaders will visit the state after assessing the COVID-19 situation.
