Kangpokpi, June 21 2021:
As Kangpokpi joined the rest of the country in observing the International Yoga Day on Monday, Kangpokpi AC MLA Nemcha Kipgen dedicated a Yoga Centre for Kangpokpi which will become fully functional within a month or two in the district headquarters.
The International Yoga Day organised by BJP Kangpokpi Mandal at Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council's multipurpose hall was attended by Nemcha Kipgen, ADC Sadar Hills caretaker chairman Haokholal Hangshing, former MDCs, local bodies leaders, and BJP Kangpokpi Mandal leaders.
Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organization president Hekim Hangshing was instructor of the event.
All the participants including MLA Nemcha and Haokholal Hangshing performed Yoga exercises for almost an hour.
After the Yoga session, Nemcha Kipgen said that Yoga is a way of living that aims towards a healthy mind in a healthy body.
She also pointed out that Yoga helps promote a balanced development of physical, mental and spiritual being.
She recalled that the idea for an UN-mandated International Day of Yoga was first proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 2014 and following his proposal, June 21 has been marked as the day to celebrate International Yoga Day since it marks the summer solstice, the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere, which holds special significance in many parts of the world.
She said that this year's International Yoga Day's theme "Yoga for well-being" is very much relevant at the juncture as all sections of the society are struggling to recover from the harsh impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The MLA further said that the COVID-19 plight was not just a physical crisis, it also left a lasting impact on mental health, with many left with depression and anxiety dealing with the pandemic, adding that Yoga can help people deal with such crisis.
"We must practice Yoga as it is not merely an exercise but a way to attain peace through physical, mental, and spiritual well-being while peace and harmony are related to Yoga", asserted MLA Nemcha Kipgen.
Considering the importance of Yoga, the local MLA dedicated a Yoga Centre for Kangpokpi which, she said, would start functioning with a proper instructor within a month or two.
She appealed to the people of Kangpokpi to register and participate in Yoga without hesitation keeping in mind that the importance of life is the health of the body.
If health is not good, one will not be able to achieve his or her goals or will not remain happy, the MLA added.
