Imphal, May 20 2020:
With this current trend of sending Manipuris who returned from different States to quarantine facilities by checking only their body temperature, the State may become under Red Zone anytime, claimed Sugnu AC MLA K Ranjit.
Speaking to media persons at his official residence at Babupara after inspecting the quarantine centre opened for Sugnu AC, Ranjit said that as a vaccine for COVID-19 hasn't been developed yet, following guidelines of the health experts is the only means to avoid the dreaded disease which has infected millions of people globally.
While lauding the Government for considering the plight of State natives stuck in different parts of the country and evacuating them, the Congress leader suggested that every individual returning to the State should be compulsorily tested for COVID-19 and only those who tested negative should be sent to the respective quarantine centres opened at their home district.
Stranded Manipuris should be evacuated in a phased manner, he said, appealing the Government to have a threadbare discussion with the experts concerned before finalising any decision.
With community quarantine centres spread across the State, sending the returnees directly to the quarantine facilities without testing for COVID-19 may prove costly and may turn Manipur into a Red Zone, he said.
