Uncle convicted for sexual assault

A 39-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a minor has been convicted by the Special Court (POCSO) Ukhrul today and fixed January 27 for sentence hearing.
The convict from Silchar is said to be the uncle of the minor (12) who brought her to Ukhrul in October 2015 in the name of providing her education.
As per the submission of the Investigating Officer, she was admitted in a school at Ukhrul and since March 2016 till the day she filed a police complaint on May 20 the same year, she was subjected to sexual assault by the convict.
While the hearing of the case was held on January 18, the accused was convicted today by the Special Court.
The accused had committed penetrative sexual assault on the minor victim girl repeatedly attracting offence under Section 3 of the POCSO Act, 2012 .
Hence he is punishable under Section 4 of the same Act, the Court said convicting the accused.
The Court fixed January 27 for sentence hearing.
