Rs 8762 lakhs sanctioned for Thoubal Barrage: Ngamthang

Imphal, June 19 2013:
IFC Minister Ngamthang Haokip today informed the State Assembly that an amount of Rs 8762 had been sanctioned for construction of the right main canal of Thoubal Barrage till the financial year 2012-13 .
Minister Ngamthang Haokip was replying to a query raised by Opposition MLA Th Shyamkumar during the Question and Answer session of the State Assembly today.
The Minister went on to inform the House that Thoubal Barrage, as of now, has provide irrigation facilities in cultivable areas of Nongpok Keithel Manbi, Kamuching, Nungbrang, Leirongthel Pitra, Changamdabi and Kamun Maring.
The construction of the right main canal upto a distance of 9 km has been completed and the work on extending the canal up to a distance of 11 km would be completed by July this year.
He also informed the House that compensation to the affected land owners in the process of mending the embankment of Langathel River has already been given.
While answering to another question asked by Opposition MLA Dr I Ibohalbi, Minister Ngamthang Haokip informed the House that the total estimated cost of Thoubal Multipurpose Project as projected in 1977 was Rs 47.25 crores.
It was later revised to Rs 1387.85 crores in the year 201.The Forest and Environment clearance has been sanctioned already.
Replying to a question raised by MLA Dr Ng Bijoy during the same session, Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar said that there is no policy or proposal from the side of the Government to construct a Motel along the stretch of the road from Imphal to Moreh.
There is no case of an Alto being hit by a bus provided under JNNURM, the Minister further clarified in response to a question being raised by MLA S Kunjo.
Minister Kh Ratankumar, while answering to another question of MLA L Nandakumar, stated that the government has not announced both sides of RIMS Road, Thangal Bazaar, MG Avenue, Khuyathong and Paona Bazaar as parking areas.
