Kut to be celebrated in 'solemn, muted nature'

Kut Committee (Chavang Kut), Churachandpur has announced that it will celebrate the Kut festival in "solemn and muted nature" .
In a statement, Chavang Kut Committee said the cultural event has planned to host "numerous cognate groups from far and wide" to boost cultural integration, solidarity, peaceful and positive deterrent to tragic incidents as witnessed in Churachandpur.
The committee said the occasion will feature traditional items representing the common heritage that forges unity and will collectively honour to "nine tribal martyrs" .
The night programme will not be held and the Kut celebration will not promote frivolity, said the statement.
The Kut committee also saluted the martyrs who have sacrificed their lives for the tribal people on August 31 and September 1, 2015 .
The cognate groups to hosted by the festival are Kuki; Mizo; Kachin; Chin; Karbi; Zeliangrong; Kachari; Bodo; Konyak; Singpho; Heimi; Somra Kuki; Para; Makury; Lainau; Noaw; Phom; Yimchunger; Khiamnungan; Upper Chindwin Shan; Tagin; Mishing; Miji; Adi; Nocte; Wancho; Apatani; Bugun; Misi; Padam; Sherdukpen; Tani; Khamba; Khamti; Lishpa; Memba; Milang; Mishmi; Monpa; Nyishi; Sangkhen; Tangsa and Zekhring, informed the statement.
