Jiribam October 13 2011:
As the 120-hour general strike called by JDDC over the demand for upgradation of Jiribam sub-division to a full-fledged revenue district concluded today, shops and market places have started normal business even as vehicular movement on the roads resumed.
On the last day of the strike today, a large number of strike supporters came out on the streets and shouted slogans demanding upgradation of Jiribam sub-division to a full-fledged revenue district at the earliest.
Strike supporters also set on fire the effigies of CM, O Ibobi Singh and Revenue Minister Th Debendra, who is also the local MLA, at different places including Dibong and Kalinagar.
During the strike period, normal life in the sub-division continued to remain crippled with all the Government offices, schools and other private establishments shutting down and market places wore a deserted look.
However, some goods laden trucks bound for Imphal were escorted by security personnel from Jiribam today despite the strike.
