Imphal, May 12 2015 :
Social Welfare minister AK Mirabai has warned that her department will have strict supervision and will take up action against those Anganwadi centres which are not functioning properly.
This was stated by the minister on Tuesday during the Annual Review Meeting 2015 of ICDS held at the Classic Hotel, Imphal.
Mirabai further said that sanction of 43 out of the 60 Anganwadi blocks of Manipur has been made already.
She will request the Union Ministry concerned to sanction necessary funds for the remaining 17 blocks at the earliest.
She also opined that the newly-launched government scheme 'Beti Bachao, Beti Badhao' must be launched in the state at the earliest.
For this, the minister further added that food supplements and other necessary materials to the pregnant and lactating mothers will be supplied soon.
Commenting on the declining sex ratio in some districts of the state, Mirabai said that sex ratio is declining in some districts such as Senapati where the ratio is 1000 males to 896 females, which is alarming.
This may be due to the parents' preference for male child, and she assured that her department will investigate this matter through Anganwadi centres.
The review meeting today was also attended by Principal Secretary of Social Welfare SK Deva Burman; Joint Director of Family Welfare Dr Ushakiran and Social Welfare Joint Director L Nabakishor.
An official website www.ocds.mn.gov.in was also launched today.
