ZB (AMN) seeks Govt attention on landslides

Zeliangrong Baudi Assam Manipur and Nagaland or ZB (AMN) on Tuesday urged the State Government to take up immediate measures to mitigate the plight of landslide affected people in Zeliangrong areas.
In a press statement, ZB-AMN General Secretary Dr Gairiangmei Maringmei said due to recent incessant rain, several areas of the Zeliangrong region have experienced landslides.
These areas include Nungba, Khoupum, Tousem, and Tamei Sub-divisions in Tamenglong District.
Gairiangmei informed that due several landslides in the Jiri-Imphal National Highway, vehicular traffic and public movements have been badly disrupted.
He said the landslides damaged many houses and shops in (Noney) Bazaar area.
The overflowing waters from the drainages have also damaged many standing crops and submerged paddy fields in the surrounding areas of Longmai.
The overflowing water of Khoupum Dam has also caused immense hardship to the people of Khoupum Valley, he said.
Gairiangmei further added that landslides which occurred in Imphal Valley foothill areas have affected Zeliangrong community at Langol Tharon, Langol Tarung, Langol Grace Colony area, Langol Guigailong, Langol Laimanai and Langol Lanthungching.
The baudi alleged that the Government's poor management of the post landslide phase had further caused damage to many properties.
