Jiribam, June 10 2018:
All Jiribam Road Transport Drivers' Union (AJRTU) on Sunday provided daily essential commodities including rice and grains to drivers of more than 15 0 trucks who have been stationed/ detained at Jiribam following an order of Manipur High Court which prohibits vehicles weighing more than 16.2 metric tonne from crossing Irang, Makru and Barak bridges.
Speaking to media persons, general secretary of AJRTU Pratap Sanasam said that the loaded vehicles plying Jiribam to Imphal have been facing immense problems since the last 10 days.
The Government and concerned authorities should take up necessary actions to strengthen the bridges and install a weight bridge at Jiribam to ease the problem, he said.
He asserted that the prohibition order of the Manipur High Court to restrict to 16.2 MT per vehicle has given immense burden to the drivers.
The AJRTU appealed the Government to look into the matter and take up necessary actions to ease the situation and install a weight bridge at Jiribam at the earliest.
