Imphal, August 09 2015 :
Perturbed by the recent Naga Peace Accord, the Manipur Watch Initiative (MWI) on Sunday stated that though the agreement which was arrived at after 18 years of negotiation is commendable, the manner in which it was transacted has caused apprehension among the people.
In a statement, MWI said the reported one month's time to crystallize the framework of the NSCN (IM) Peace Accord" would be crucial and the people of Manipur are keeping an eye on it as they have constantly been observing the NSCN (IM) since its birth in 1988 .
The fact is that the spirit and elements of history of Manipur, a one-time Southeast Asian Country and now a tiny part of India, is still alive and kicking, the statement asserted.
It also said the political leadership in Delhi seems to be ignorant about it.
The statement released by MWI convenor Heikrujam Nabashyam said the declared vision of NSCN (IM) is anathema to democratic values and peaceful co-existence among different communities and the Ministry of Home Affairs must be having piles of reports in this regard.
The people of Manipur across all sections of the society stand against the blatant communal policies of NSCN (IM) whose medieval mindset of exclusive nationalism goes against all acceptable norms of peaceful co-existence, MWI added.
MWI further said the truth is that even in Naga dominated areas and between Naga Villages, there were non-Naga tribal villages in every 5 sq km of inhabited areas.
Therefore, in the interests of peace and peaceful co-existence among the 36 different communities both scheduled and non-scheduled tribes of Manipur, the Government of India should never concede to any communal demands made by the NSCN(IM) that would cause a new phase of conflict in the region.
