Two girls have been rescued by villagers after being allegedly kidnapped by cadres of Kuki National Army (KNA) � a signatory group of the Suspension of Operation (SoO).
The KNA has been alleged of kidnapping a 21-year old girl and her friend on charge of being informers of the Assam Rifles on August 29.The rescued girls from the clutch of the KNA cadres last month were Hoineichong Haokip (21), daughter of Khupsei of Lonpi village in Chandel district and her friend, Mary of Churachandpur's Tuibuong locality.
Talking to reporters today at Lonpi Village in Chandel district, Hoineichong said she left for Churachandpur on August 28 with Rs 15,000.She took the money to pay the repairing fee of her mobile phone which she had earlier dropped at a repair centre in Churachandpur.
On August 29 around 8am, she was kidnapped with her friend Mary near Tuibuong Petrol Pump by KNA cadres.
They were taken to nearby locality of Bijang Vengnom where they were put under severe interrogation by the KNA cadres.
The KNA cadres had framed a charge against them that they were informers of AR post at Sangaikot in Churachandpur district, Hoineichong recounted.
She narrated that they were taken to Semol village to meet a leader of the KNA.They were threatened to be killed at the place.
Their hands and legs were tied and they were blindfolded in the evening.
At around 11pm the same day, villagers of Semol who came to know of their detention gathered and stormed the place where they were kept in captivity.
The KNA cadres were said to have retreated from the place seeing the villagers crowding around, she said.
Three mobile phones and Rs 15,000 with them are said to be taken by their abductors.Hoineichong further said that their families have been threatened by the KNA that they would be killed if seen again in Churachandpur.
Speaking on the occasion, Khupsei Haokip, father of Hoineichong said the KNA has a long record of posing a threat to civilians while drawing the attention of the government to see the matter.
Khupsei recalled that the KNA cadres had raped a woman of T Lailoiphai village in Sugnu area on December 31, 2007.They tried to cover up the misdeed by paying Rs 40,000 to the victim.
They had also threatened the concerned authority to silence on the matter.
He said two women of Cheljang in Chandel district had also been raped by the cadres of KNA's Greenland Post in 1997.Khupsei added, KNA cadres had raped a young girl of New Somtal in 1995.
