Ban over railway project lifted

Imphal, July 06 2017:
The ban imposed on works related to Jiribam-Tupul-Imphal railway project by Marangching (Makhuam) villagers in protest against the Tamenglong DC's mode of payment of land compensation has been lifted .
The ban was lifted after Tamenglong DC Armstrong Pame held a joint meeting with office bearers of Marangching Village Authority and land owners yesterday .
Notably, the DC issued an order on June 16 for award of compensation for 37.88 acres and 77.10 acres after the Civil Judge (Senior Division) disposed a case related to the matter .
But another case was field at the High Court of Manipur regarding the matter .
Subsequently, an intimation was sent to banks to freeze banks accounts of all beneficiaries, and the DC clarified all these matters during the meeting .
The meeting agreed not to pose any hurdle to the railway project after it was assured that villagers would be given land compensation as per Court's directive, sources informed .
Notably, Marangching villagers imposed a ban on works related to the Tupul-Imphal railway project since 1 am of June 28 .
