Ukhrul, May 06 2013:
Tangkhul frontal bodies have called for sanity to prevail among the communities in the state while vehemently condemning the arson of Silent village by Seijang villagers on May 3 .
In a press communiqu jointly issued on Monday, the frontal Tangkhul bodies comprising Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL), Tangkhul Katmnao Saklong (TKS), Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) and Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL) have "strongly condemn the barbaric act of Meitei villagers of Seijang...and appeal to all right thinking people to condemn the atrocities committed upon the Tangkhul villagers" .
The bodies also stated that the attack on Silent village, in which 36 houses were burnt down, properties were looted and marauding of several livestock, was just a "manifestation of their ill intention towards the minority community" .
On May 3, it may be recalled that the villagers from Seijang under Lamlai Police station of Imphal East torched the Silent village under Saikul Sub-division, Senapati district.
Urging the civil societies in the state to advocate restraint and call for sanity to prevail in the matter of inter-community feud, the Tangkhul organisations pointed out that the present incident can turn
to be volatile situation for communal conflagration.
The statement also alleged that some VDF personnel in civvies, attached to Yaingangpokpi Outpost under Imphal East district, were involved in the unlawful activities unleashed upon the Silent village.
"The concerned authorities are therefore asked to conduct immediate inquiry into the matter and terminate and award befitting punishment to the guilty VDF jawan failing which the consequence will solely be responsible by state government," it asserted.
Further, the bodies demanded the state government to replace the IRB personnel stationed at Silent village by Assam Rifles.
"We do not have confidence in the state forces...therefore the Assam Rifles be immediately deployed to oversee the security of the affected villagers," the statement said.
