Govt assures action, KSO postpones stir plan

The proposed total shutdown agitation of Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO), which was scheduled to begin from 5 am of March 7 in the hill districts, has been postponed after assurance from the state government during a talk on Sunday.
The students' body had declared to impose 24-hour shutdown alleging that the state government and authorities concerned are not taking action against the commando personnel involved in the assault of KSO Sadar Hills general secretary at Kalapahar on March 3 while demanding the removal of police com mando from the hill areas.
According to KSO Department of Information and Publicity, a meeting was held with the government officials led by DGP and KSO representatives headed by GHQ general secretary Seiboi Touthang at the DGP's office chamber on Sunday afternoon.
During the meeting, the government assured to solve the issue within March 9 and sought relaxation of the agitation call till the specified period, it added.
It continued that considering the assurance, the students' body had decided to give three more days to the state government to solve the issue and also decided to postpone the total shutdown for the time being.
However, if the government fails to keep its promise within the stipulated time, the total shutdown in the hill districts will be imposed from midnight of March 9 until the issue is resolved, it said.
It may be recalled that KSO had demanded the removal of police commandos from the hill areas and appropriate action upon the.
commando personnel involved in assaulting KSO Sadar Hills general secretary within two days.
After alleging the state government and authorities concerned of not taking any action within the time frame - the stipulated two days, the students' body had decided to impose the total shutdown from March 7.Meanwhile, the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur, all KSO units and Sadar Hills Private Schools Association had declared their endorsement to the KSO stir.
