Shiv Sena calls for tough action against drug dealers

Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde), Manipur state president M Tombi has said that time has come to award severest form of punishment to arrested drug trafficker/kingpins and poppy cultivators.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Saturday, M Tombi said that India being a democratic country has legal provision and service under which people arrested with drugs could walk free on bail after two/ three months in jail.
While expressing strong desire to incorporate provisions in the existing laws of the country for giving harsh punishment to such anti-social elements, he regretted that comparatively light punishment compared to gravity of the crimes committed has been severely affecting Manipur and emboldening drug peddlers and poppy cultivators despite repeated warnings to give up the evil practice.
A nefarious war through drugs is being waged in Manipur intentionally to crush the community at the time when the state is considered as the powerhouse of sports in the country and emergence of many bright students compatible at the highest national level competitive examinations, M Tombi said.
According to M Tombi, some people from outside who are well versed in poppy plantation in coordination with local populace are funding poppy plantation but the government is fighting them day and night.
Capital punishment is given to anyone arrested with drug in Islamic countries, he pointed out while stressed the need for giving severe punishment to drug traffickers and kingpins in the state as well.
While welcoming the private member resolution passed by the state assembly on War on Drugs and subsequent declaration of all the members of the House as warriors of the war, M Tombi said Shiv Sena considers the decision very seriously.
He also announced that Shiv Sena will give priority to female candidates in the upcoming local body elections.
