The woman found killed at a hut of a fish farm at Lairenjam under Nambol police station of Bishnupur district has been identified today as Chongtham Ito alias Itobi (37) daughter of late Ch Mangi of Langdum Maning Leikai, an unmarried woman.
Family said that she went out for shopping at Imphal Khwairamband Bazar on August 1 last.
Before leaving home she also said that she will watch a film.
The dead body of the woman, mention may be made, was retrieved by police from inside a hut at a fish farm at Leirenjam village yesterday morning with bleeding at the mouth and nose.
Police is suspecting she was killed by hitting at the head with something heavy weapon.
As disclosed by the family after identification today at RIMS morgue, she was unmarried woman and went out from home around 10 am of August 1 last.
She left home for shopping at Khwairamband Bazar and to watch film.
Even though she did not return home on that day, family did not efforted to trace out her whereabouts thinking that she eloped with someone in love with her.
But as none come to inform on her elopement till 1.30 pm of the next day, family started tracing her whereabouts by asking to her friend circle.
Unable to find any clue on her missing and on getting information of recovery of dead body woman, family who visited the morgue came to know that the dead body was that of missing Itobi today.
However, the family said the bag said to be recovered along with her was not her bag.
The write up to the piece of paper found in the bag was not her handwriting as she was illiterate.
Gold ornament including one four and half san gold necklace was not missing.
After postmortem at RIMS morgue, the family has taken away the body and performed the last rites today.
Denouncing the killing of the woman, locals of Langdum area today held a meeting of the local club members and meira paibi at Langdum community hall.
The meeting formed a committee called the Joint Action Committee Against the Brutal Killing of Ch Itobi with H Shantababu as
convener.
Expressing suspect on the killing incident, the meeting also resolved to press the government to find the culprit(s) at the earliest and award befitting punishment.
The JAC will also submit a memorandum to the state chief minister, the convener said.
