Sit-ins decry lifting of liquor ban

Imphal, October 02 2022:
Denouncing the government's decision to legalise liquor in the state, Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) along with like-minded organisations continued to stage sit-in protests in various districts of the state on Sunday In Imphal East, Meeyamgi Yaipha Nupi Lup and CADA Imphal East District Committee jointly staged a sit-in protest at Khongman Zone-IV and V community hall on Sunday and also raised slogans demanding the government to withdraw its decision.
In Imphal West district members of Kodompokpi Mamang Leikai Yaipha Ihou Women's Association and CADA Unit took part in the Sit-protest held at Kodompokpi Mamang Leikai.
In Kakching district, Laimanai Mamang Leikai Meira Paibi and CADA Kakching District Committee protested at Laimanai.
During the sit-in at Laimanai, a protestor, named, Sh Omita said that the government's contention that it is unable to ban alcohol is baseless, adding that if it (government) is truly sincere in the matter, nothing is impossible.
Meanwhile, in Thoubal district, a similar sitin was staged jointly by Thoubal District United Women's Development Organisation (Thoubal Ima) and CADA at Charangpat Mayai Leikai on Sunday and also raised slogans against the government's decision.
