Imphal, October 31 2011:
Demanding that the post of Tribal Development Minister should be given to tribal MLAs/Ministers, Federation of All Tribal Youth Clubs, Manipur (FATYCM) has decided to submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister in this regard.
Announcing this during a press conference at Manipur Press Club here today, President of FATYCM R Asing recalled that since the attainment of statehood, the post of Tribal Development Minister has always been given to one of the elected tribal MLAs.
But the post has been taken over by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh since April this year.
Contending that a tribal MLA/Minister can understand the issues of tribal more thoroughly, Asing pointed out that after the Chief Minister took over the charge of Tribal Development, it has become very difficult for the tribals to meet the Minister concerned for discussion on issues related to tribal welfare.
So, appointment of Tribal Development Minister from among the elected tribal MLAs/Ministers is imperative and a memorandum in this regard would be submitted to the Prime Minister very soon, the FATYCM President disclosed.
He also demanded that the posts of Commissioner or Principal Secretary or Director in Tribal Development Department should also be appointed from among officials who have thorough knowledge about tribal culture and traditions and the fund sanctioned should be utilized for tribal welfare.
