Battle of Red Hill

Assam Rifles, 2nd World War Imphal Campaign Foundation and Manipur Tourism Forum, observed the 7th anniversary of the Battle of Red Hill at India Peace Memorial, Maibam Lokpa Ching today.
Floral tributes and respects were paid at the memorial by CO of 15 AR, CO of 6 AR, Bishnupur DC Pawan Yadav, Additional SP (Ops) Bishnupur Ksh Manihar, Tourism Director W Ibohal, Commander Brig Amit Kabthiyal of 9 Sector AR.
As a part of the event, two witnesses of the war at Maibam Lokpa Ching, Taorem Gouramohon and Asem Tompak Singh were presented simple gifts by the presidium members as well.
Speaking at the event, 2nd World War Imphal Campaign Foundation president Y Rajeshwor said that the event is observed as a reminder that war does not bring any solution, only death and destruction and that peace is the only lasting solution.
He further lamented that the events which happened during the war, specially in Manipur, are mostly omitted from most of the syllabus which has resulted in low awareness among the younger generations.
During the event, weapons and uniforms as well as photos used by Japanese armies during the war were showcased, apart from various cultural performance including Thoibi Jagoi performance.
It may be mentioned that the event is observed in memory of the battle between the 17th Indian Division and the Japanese at Maibam Lokpa Ching which took place from May 21, 1944 to May 29 .
