Imphal, September 27 2021:
While reiterating that Manipur will come to the path of development only when every community settling in the state since time immemorial live with peace and harmony, All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) strongly called for peaceful co-existence and maintained that the organisation will fight against any force which attempts to distort integrity of Manipur.
The apex body of clubs and organisations of Manipur also appealed all concerned not to propagate community based agenda which would not be successful.
This statement was made by AMUCO president Ph Nando Luwang during the oath taking ceremony of new office bearers held at its office at Kwakeithel Akham Leikai community hall.
After re-election as AMUCO president forthe tenure 2021-23, Nando Luwang said it has been standing steadfastly for integrity of Manipur and shouldered responsibility in different issues of Manipur in coordination with the people.
AMUCO believes in collective survival of all the communities of Manipur apart from taking collective responsibility to keep intact integrity of Manipur.
However, the organisation could not work properly in the previous tenure beginning from September 27, 2019 owing to COVID-19 pandemic.
Amidst the pandemic, AMUCO shouldered its responsibility and provided rice to around 13,000 families during the first wave and facilitated conduct of vaccination and COVID-19 awareness programmes.
In the second wave of the pandemic too, AMUCO provided relief materials to around 10,000 families and it was possible due to help and support from the people, Nando said adding that the organisation will continue to work together with the people in future too.
According to Nando, Manipur is small in size but face different problems for it is home to many ethnic communities.
With assembly election approaching, different political parties or leaders or candidates or underground groups will take advantage of election and will play community based politics for their own selfish gains, he said and appealed people to be cautious of any divisive agenda or attempt to distort unity and integrity of Manipur.
While describing late Athuan Abonmai as a man of integrity and a symbol of Manipur's unity and integrity, the AMUCO president said the lesson people of Manipur should learn from pre-planned murder of Athuan Abonmai is that some people are always trying to break apart Manipur.
There was high profile conspiracy to murder of Abonmai and his murder was also a threat message to those working for integrity of Manipur, he said adding that state government and the Centre should give suitable answer to murderers of Athuan Abonmai.
Apart from Ph Nando, Norendro Thokchom and Ksh Rajen Meetei were elected as general secretary and finance secretary for the tenure 2021-23 .
