Imphal, May 26 2021:
Noting that only few people came out during the mass Covid testing drive specially organised for Sagolband AC in view of the surging Covid-19 cases in the state, MLA Rk Imo stated that as early diagnosis of the virus will help save lives and avoid complicacy in treatment, people need to volunteer to take Covid test.
Speaking to media persons, Rk Imo pointed out that RAT to examine Covid-19 infection, if any, has been conducted at several areas of Sagolband constituency.
On Wednesday, 93 people were tested at Kangabam Leikai and Kebol Junior High School, out of which 16 people were found positive for Covid-19, he informed.
Highlighting the need to conduct mass testing, Imo said that the positive people need to be detected and isolated so as to break the chain of transmission of the infectious virus.
Informing that the positivity rate in the constituency is 18-19 per cent, he recalled that 73 people from Salam Leikai, Ingudam Leirak and Kangabam Leikai were tested few days back and 28 of them were confirmed for Covid-19.This should not be taken lightly, he cautioned, while adding that there is a need to conduct mass testing in Sagolband and Imphal area so as to detect Covid positive cases and give proper treatment in time.
Pointing out that he has been attending the mass testing drive done by the government to detect positive patients earlier, Rk Imo contended that the number of people who came out to conduct test is very low because of fear or various other reasons.
People should know that getting infected by the virus is alright, but failure to treat timely is dangerous for the patient.
Timely detection and treatment will not only save lives of the patients but will also help in reducing the chances of transmission of the virus to others, he added.
Informing that Covid test will be done in several areas of the constituency including Kwakeithel Thiyam Leikai, the MLA encouraged the people to come out and get themselves tested so as to help contain the pandemic.
